Course Aims
To enable the candidate to become a qualified First Aider within their place of work.
Objectives
By the end of the session the candidate will be able to:
- deal with accidents and illness eg. what to do in an emergency
- use a First Aid kit
- simple record keeping
- resuscitation
- treatment of an unconscious casualty
- treatment of a heart attack
- control of bleeding
- burns and scalds
- poisoning
- fractures
- shock
Who is this programme for?
The course is ideal for those who are going to be a nominated First Aider at work - all UK companies must make First Aid provision for their employees - or who want to improve their own First Aid skills.

To enable an appointed person to give emergency aid to a co-worker prior to the arrival of emergency medical services.

Manual Handling
Course Aims
To raise awareness of the impact that Manual Handling has on the health and wellbeing of staff
Objectives
By the end of the session the candidate will be able to:
- identify the legal responsibilities with regards to moving and handling
- identify the basic anatomy of the spine and explain why it is at risk from incorrect manual handling operations
- state the principals for controlling manual handling risks and apply this in a practical context
- engage in a discussion around the issues of good and bad manual handling techniques
- discuss and demonstrate competence in manual handling techniques

Manual Handling Instructors Course
Course Aims
To develop the skills of individuals with a responsibility for delivering safe and effective Manual Handling courses.
The course duration is two days and provides candidates not only with the necessary skills to be able to effectively deliver the course, but also observation skills to be able to assess the students lifting techniques.

Food Hygiene
Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene
Course Aims
To give first tier food workers an appreciation of the fundamentals of good food-hygiene practice.
Objectives
By the end of the session the candidate will:
- have an understanding of the basic requirements of food safety legislation
- be able to describe the powers which local authorities have to control the sale of unfit, sub-standard or injurious food
- have the ability to state, in general terms, the requirements of the current regulations in relation to: construction and cleanliness of premises and equipment; food handlers and their training; the handling of food; facilities to be provided in premises; the temperatures at which food must be stored
- be able to explain the circumstances in which insanitary food premises may be closed.

All staff working in a frontline catering environment.
